Just less than one month before handing a change of government, President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC.
The former governor who had defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, shortly after he left office in 2014, had his appointment announcement contained in a statement released Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to the President, Reuben Abati.
Alongside Mr. Peter Obi, was also the confirmation of the appointment of Mounir Haliru Gwarzo as the director-general of SEC.
Mr. Gwarzo was appointed on acting capacity shortly after the tenure of the former director-General of the commission, Arunma Oteh, ended last year.
The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Femi Thomas, was however, not lucky as he was sacked by the president.
Mr. Abati announced the appointment of Olufemi Akingbade as the acting Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the agency.
